Deemed rates

If you take over the responsibility of a new property then you are deemed to have entered into an agreement with the current registered supplier of that property. This means that the supplier is obliged to provide gas and, in turn, you are required to pay for the gas at the supplier's published rates (until such time as a new contract has been negotiated). This is known as 'deemed' rates.

The deemed and out of contract rates will generally be revised twice a year, in Spring and Autumn.

Our current Gas & Electricity deemed rates are:

GAS
Standing Charge (Daily) Site Specific (Min £1.50 S/C)
Administration Charge (Daily) Site Specific
Unit Rate (pence/kWh) 8.0p/kWh

ELECTRICITY
Standing Charge (Daily) Site Specific (Min £1.50 S/C)
Administration Charge (Daily) Site Specific
Unit Rate (pence/kWh) 35.00p/kWH

If a meter is not read on the date you take responsibility for the site then Opal reserves the right to estimate your opening reading based on industry data.

If you are currently on deemed rates then please call 0330 400 4444 to negotiate a better gas price for your business.

Terms and conditions relating to deemed contracts are available here.

Variable and Deemed rates from 1st January 2024:

Standing Charge (Daily) £1.50 p/day
Unit Rate (pence/kWh) 8p/kWh (GAS), 35p/kWH (ELECTRICITY)

If you give notice that you do not wish to renew your contract with Opal you’ll be charged at the standard ‘out of contract rates’.

These will apply from the end of your current fixed term period until you agree a new contract with us, or switch to another supplier.

If you are currently on out of contract rates then please call us on 0330 400 4444 to negotiate a better gas price for your business.
